How many weekly sessions are offered?
Camp runs for six consecutive weeks, from June 29 to August 7, 2015.  Campers register by the number of weeks they wish to attend.

What are the hours of a typical camp day?
Camp runs from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday.

Are there supervised day care sessions before and after camp hours?
Pre-care and post-care sessions are offered from 7:30 - 9:00 AM, and 4:00 - 5:30 PM, respectively. Staff supervision and a variety of activities are provided during these additional hours. Snacks and drinks are provided each day in post-care.


What if I only need pre or post-care on certain days?
Arrangements for single day care sessions can be made with our registrar.

What is the drop-off/pick-up procedure?
Drop-off and pick-up policy requires parents/guardians to sign in and sign out children on a daily basis. Any other pick-up arrangements will require a written note with a parental signature when dropping off children in the morning.


What are the ages and grade levels of the campers?
Campers range in age roughly from 5 to 11 years old in our 1st-6th grade program and 12-15 years old in our 7th-10th grade junior high program. The children are frequently divided into age groups to allow for age-appropriate activities.  The grade level refers to which grade a camper will be entering in the fall following camp.


What special activities are offered each day?
Campers begin each day with camp opening, a time for fellowship, singing, skits and announcements. Bible Time is an activity in which age-level groups hear a lesson from the Bible. Daily activities rotate campers through activity centers, such as crafts, cooking, sports and group games. On certain days, day trips take campers to a variety of fun locations.

What are the camp facilities like?

Summer Adventure utilizes the facilities of Black Rock Church.  The church features newly constructed classrooms and activity rooms specifically designed for kids and youth, with a game room, a large group room, a youth cafe, and a large multipurpose room for indoor group games.  Click on the pictures below for a view of our facilities:

 

 


Is the camp licensed by the state of Connecticut?
Yes, each summer, the camp is thoroughly inspected and certified by state representatives.

What medical forms are needed for enrollment?
Campers require a current medical examination by a licensed physician. The Youth Health Exam/Record for Campers is required to be competed by the physician, copies of which can be obtained on the Downloads/Forms page. Completed forms are valid for 3 years.

How are the counselors chosen? What is their experience?
Counselors are chosen for several qualities. All counselors are preferred to have completed at least one year of college. Many of our counselors are career teachers with extensive experience in education and working with children. Thorough background checks are completed to ensure quality of character, high dedication and effort. Counselors are also chosen for special skills in the arts, athletics and the concern they have for children. With a high return rate, the camp staff has several years of collective experience and quality working relationships with one another and the camp community. The staff strives to build wholesome relationships with the children as positive Christian role models.

What is the ratio of counselors to campers?
The ratio is about one counselor per five campers.

Are there lifeguards and a nurse on staff?
Select counselors are trained as lifeguards and administer lifeguard supervision at all swimming locations. A camp nurse is fully trained to administer first-aid needs. Counselors are trained in CPR and basic first-aid.

What is the lunch procedure?
Campers bring their lunch to camp each day, which is stored in coolers for transportation. Occasionally, lunch will be provided on special trips or events.

What do campers need to bring each day?
In addition to lunch, campers should bring a bathing suit and a towel. Any other items, such as water shoes or sneakers, will be requested on the weekly schedule when needed. Camp shirts will be required to be worn on certain trips, and campers will be notified in advance as well.

Does my child need to come from a Christian background or attend a church?
No. In the past, campers have come from a variety of faith backgrounds, or none at all. No one is judged or made to feel excluded based on these characteristics. The goal of Summer Adventure’s Bible time is to introduce children to the stories and basic values of the Bible, to instill love and respect for each other and for God, seeking to better know Him.
